"Duh!" 是美国人用来表示「这不是废话吗?」、「这还用说吗?」等所发出来的一种语音。说的时候要有一种attitude, 有点像说中文的「废话!」那样的语气。

"on the spot" 的另一个用法是「当场」的意思。好比你送车进厂检修, 修车厂的人找到问题后, 马上当场帮你把车修好, 就算"They fixed your car on the spot."

A: 唉呀! 老兄! 这个房间真是脏得不象话。你上回打扫房间(子)是什么时候哇? B: The last time my mom was here. B: 上次我妈来的时候。
A: 嘿! 你眼睛瞪着那个女孩子的屁股看干什么? B: I'm not. I just like the skirt she's wearing. B: 我没有呀! 我只是喜欢她穿的那件裙子。
还有一个很有意思, 也是由"bun"的形状衍生而来的俚语是"have a bun in the oven"。这个俚语按字面上看来好象是「有个面包在烤箱里」, 不过它真正的意思是指「怀孕」。所以当要表示「Sally 正在怀孕中」, 我们就可以说"Sally is having a bun in the oven."。这个应该在形状上和意义上都蛮贴切的喔!
A: 你生气 Nancy 是因为她太久才还你录像带吗? B: No. I lent her my favorite tape and she recorded over it. That really pissed me off. B: 不是。我借给她我最喜欢的带子, 结果她在上面录东西。那倒真的让我很生气。
"piss" 其实是「尿尿」的意思(= pee)。从这里也可以看出来这不是个很高雅的词语, 即使很多人都用, 而且包括女生。但严格地说, 如果是在需要 "watch your language"(小心你说的话)的地方, 你还是不要用的好。
A: 我好累...要是现在可以在海滩放轻松休息休息多好。 B: Me, too. B: 我也是!
A: 你喜欢你的新室友吗? B: He is an okay person. I like him. B: 我喜欢他。他这个人不错。
"okay" 还有一个用法是指一个东西的品质还可以(在可接受的范围内), 但不算非常非常好(excellent)。好比常常我们可能会因为预算的关系, 买了一个也许不是我们最想要的物品, 但总算是自己觉得还可以的。这时如果朋友问我们:「你买了什么样的电视啊?」(比方), 我们就可以在回答他们品牌后, 再补一句:"Well, it's not exactly my dream TV., but it's a decent one." (嗯, 虽然不算是我梦想中的电视, 不过也不错啦!)。要注意的是, 上面这个用法是用在形容「事物」的时候, 用"decent"来形容「人」时, 并没有暗示对方不是最好的意思喔!
A: 店里所有的家具全都减价卖出吗? B: Yeah. The whole place is packed. You'd better shake a leg before it's all gone. B: 是呀! 整个地方(店)都挤满人了。你最好在它们卖光前赶快去。
总之, "shake a leg" 是「赶快」(hurry)的意思。 不只是「人」的满可以用"packed"来形容, 停车场里满满是车也可以用。 好象你开进停车场里, 发现放眼望去一个停车位都没有, 你就可以说"Oh, man. The whole parking lot is packed."。
A: Richard 这个夏天真的去了意大利了吗? B: No way. He was only pulling your leg and you believed him? B: 哪有可能? 他只是跟你开玩笑的, 你还当真啊?
不知道为什么, "pulling one's leg" 和「扯后腿」的意思对美国人是完全无法联想在一起的。 他们倒是会用"trip one up"(把某人绊倒的意思)来形容像「扯后腿」这样的作法。
A: 考试考得怎么样? B: Oh, you won't believe it. I got all the questions right at first, and then I decided to go back and make some changes. Guess what? I ended up getting five booboos. I'm kicking myself for that. B: 噢! 你不会相信的。我起先全部答对了。后来决定又跑回去改了一下。你猜怎么样了? 我结果错了五题。我怪死自己了。

当然, "dynamite"还有跟「炸药」有关的意思, 也就是「危险的」的意思。好比有一件事是你绝对不应该提起的, 否则可能有什么不堪的后果, 旁人可能会提醒你:"Don't talk about it. It;s dynamite."。

A: 怎么了? 怎么忽然都不说话了? B: Nothing. I just had a flashback to the day my ex-boyfriend and I broke up. B: 没什么。只是忽然想起一些和以前的男朋友分手那一天的情景。

另外有一个字"replace", 虽然字意好象也有「替代」的意思, 但用法却和"fill in"不太一样。"replace"常用来指「长期的取代」。 好比某个主管因为在工作方面表现不尽理想, 公司方面可就会一番考量后找来另外的人来取代他的职位。这时用的词就会?quot;replace", 而不是"fill in"了。

61. screw around 胡闹; 不作正经事
A: Max, 不要胡闹了, 作你的报告去吧! B: I don't want to. How can I write about something I never read? B: 我不想啊。要我怎么样写我都没读过的东西嘛?
"screw around" 还有一个意思是指一个人在感情上的不专情, 同时和很多人来往。例如: "After he met Susanne, he stopped screwing around." 就是「自从碰到 Susanne 后他就不再到处鬼混了。」
A: (给你)一个忠告, 别跟她乱来, 她的脾气可坏得很! B: She does? But she looks like a sweet little angel. B: 是吗? 但是她看起来像个可爱善良的小天使。
另外有一个跟 "screw around" 也有关系的词组是 "screw around with something"。它的意思是「胡搞某个东西」的意思。好比有人拿着你的遥控器乱玩一番, 你就可以请他 "Stop screwing around with the remote control."。

Good thing... 还好，幸好… 在美语当中若要表达中文里「还好，幸好…」的语气，你就可以用Good thing...做开头。 这个句型非常简单又好用，你只要在Good thing后面加上完整的句子就可以。 5. I don't believe you're bringing this up. 你现在提这件事真是岂有此理 你现在提这件事真是岂有此理bring something up是指「提到（某件事）」。当然情况会有 正反两面。你若没想到对方会提起这件事讨骂，你可以说I don't believe you're bringing this up.。而反过来说，若你很高兴对方主动提起了一件事，你也可以用这个片 语，自然说出I am glad you are bringing this up. 6. spy on... 跟监（某人） spy这个字就是「间谍」。当动词用的意思自然就是「做间谍做的事」，也就是「监视，跟 踪」之意。当你要去监视跟踪某人，美语中就说成spy on someone。 7. There's no other way of saying it.没有别种说法 有时候不管你再怎么转、再怎么拗，也没有办法更婉转或是避开一些绝对会出现的字，这时 候你就可以用上There's no other way of saying it.这句话，来表达自己避无可避的为 难，因为「没有别种说法。」 8. That will not always be the case. 情况不会永远是这样 case这个字有「情况」的意思，That will be the case.就是指「情况就会是这样了。」但 是你若觉得现在的情况只会是暂时，不会长久，你就可以反过来说That will not always be the case.「情况不会永远是这样。」 9. She is coming on to you. 她对你有意思 She is coming on to you.这句话是用在两性的关系上，意思是「她对你投怀送抱。」也就 是形容某人对某人有意思的情况，这个句型男女两性都适用；同样的情况，你也可以说She is making a pass at you.「她对你眉来眼去的。」这两种说法都很生动，而且最棒的是没 有新单字，赞！ 10. I was being polite.我这是在说客气话 polite这个字，我们在学校学的意思是「有礼貌的。」当然你若要说一个人有礼貌，你可以 说He is polite.或是He has good manners.不过I was being polite.这句话是指「我这是 在说客气话。」使用的情境比较趋近于客套而不伤和气的出发点，与「做作」artificial (a.)又不一样了。 21. get down to...是指「追究出最根柢的原因」，也就是把层层的原因摊开，在抽丝剥茧之后 所得到最精确最原本的那个答案。 22. let someone off let someone off是指「放某人一马」，也就是let someone off the hook，就如同你在钓 鱼，鱼儿上了「钩」hook，而你把它放掉let it off the hook「放它一马」。 23. I don't know what came over me. 这句话的使用时机是，当你觉得自己方才或是回想当时的举动反应，跟平常的自己判若两 人，等自己回过味来，才觉得有所不妥，犹如中文里的「我不知道自己是哪根筋不对」。 24. I think you're thinking of somone else. 这句话的使用时机是若谁认错人，或是记错人的时候，你就可以跟对方说I think you're thinking of someone else.「我觉得你是想到别人去了」。 25. This is not how it looks. 这句话是用来辟谣的，当有些事情看起来让人误会，而实情却不是表面那般，你就可以用上 这句话This is not how it looks.「事情不是表面看来的这样」，以说服他人不要指凭他 们所看到的片面，骤下结论。 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 26. pass oneself off as... pass oneself off as...的意思就是「某人蒙混成……以过关」，好比小孩装成大人去看限 制级电影，这可能是服装的不同，或是整体打扮的乔装，甚至还包括语调口音的不同。 27. be out of someone's league league是指「联盟」，好比美国职棒的「大联盟」就是Major League。A be out of B's league.这句话的意思就是A的层级、能耐或是地位……都比B高出许多，非B所能及。若是使 用在男女关系上，就是指「B配不上A」，若是使用在一般分胜负的情况，就是指「B比不上 A」。 28. talk back talk back字面的意思是「说回去」，也就是「回嘴，顶嘴」的意思。用在句子里，你可以 说Don't talk back to your parents.「别跟父母顶嘴」。或是简洁地说Don't talk back. 「不许顶嘴」。 29. spare no effort spare的意思是「省却，省下」，effort是「努力」，spare no effort就是指「不惜血本， 不计代价」，也就是你下定决心，就算用尽一切资源，也要达成某一个目标。 30. Would you cut it out, already? cut it out是指「住嘴，住手」的意思，Would you cut it out, already?这句话当中的 already，暗示着说话者的极度不耐烦，整句话的意思就犹如中文里的「你到底是有完没 完？」 31. for crying out loud for crying out loud这个词组从字面上看，好像有大喊大叫的意思，不过在使用上，for crying out loud就跟for god's sake一样，都是表示说话者负面的评价，犹如中文里「搞 什么名堂！」、「乱七八糟！」这类在语气中带有忿忿不平的话，同时暗示着说话者的不耐 烦。 32. for your information 照字面上看，是「我提供讯息给你」的意思，但其实说这个词组时，说话者的口气通常会比 较强硬，有着教训别人，或是指别人搞不清楚状况的意味。 33. I must be losing it. 这句话当中的it是指「神智，理智」，所以lose it的意思就是「失去理智」，也就是「发 疯」的意思。someone must be losing it.这句话的使用时机，是当你觉得有谁做出了脱离 常轨的举动，你料想「……一定是疯了」。 34. This one is on me. 这句话，相当适用于男性看倌，通常在和女朋友外出用餐或是跟一伙人一起吃喝，到了付账 时总是气氛尴尬，要是此时你撂下This one is on me!「这顿算我的！」相信大伙绝对会对 你报以英雄式欢呼。不过这种义气只能偶一为之，量力而为，不然苦的还是你自己。 35. even up the odds odds是「胜算，成功的可能性」，通常用在赌博或是比赛的场合。你可以说The odds are high. 来表示「胜算高」。相对的，要说胜算「低」只要将high改成low即可。even 在这当 作动词使用，是「使相等」的意思，因而even up the odds则可解释为「扳回劣势」。 36. What have we got here? 「看我们找到了什么？」这句话是相当口语的用法。What have we got here?经常被使用在 翻箱倒柜找寻东西或是搜身等特殊情境，有一点寻宝的意味存在。 37. be out of the way be out of the way就是「让路，誊出地方」。若你要表达「挡路」则是be in the way。另 外Get out of my way!则是不客气地表达「滚开！」的意思。 38. Why all the trouble? Why all the trouble?「干嘛费那么大劲」，这句短语是当一件事明明轻而易举地就可以完 成，却有人要拐弯抹角做些事倍功半的白工，你就可以对他说Why all the trouble? 39. Call it a day. 这个词组字面上的意思指「就称它做一天。」进而引申为「到此为止，就这样结束。」当你 要想要结束一件事不再追究，或是开会、上课在结尾前，主席或老师便可说Let's call it a day.「今天就到这里。」 40. You won't regret it.regret 是指「后悔，懊恼」You won't regret it.的意思为「你不会后悔的」。You won't regret it.这句话常用在自己挂保证，怂恿对方绝对不会后悔的情况，譬如在作投 资、店员作产品推销……等。 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 41. I don't have all day. I don't have all day.这句话是用来抱怨对方的拖拖拉拉，不干不脆，字面上的意思是 「我没有一整天。」也就是指「我没时间跟你耗。」若是你哪天遇到有人做事慢吞吞，拖泥 带水，一旦你等得不耐烦了，就可以用上这句话。 49. 8月29日 self-giving dad My dad did never express his emotion in front of me,Eventhrough as the saying is that daughter is his father's preexistence sweet heart,but i never realize this saying is truth,even i always doubt this saying is a scandle. But some words from my father proved that he is concerned about me all the time,even mashed a prejudice that my dad is completely sackless guy who doesn't care about others . Staying at home ,my mom told to me that when i was at school ,my father often pursuaded she to give me a ring to know about what i was doing at that time . Today my dad came back home at 6:00pm,during our dinner time ,he asked me whether i need a digital cameral or not,and then he went on saying :"you can select your favorite one from all kinds of cameral,then you can tell to me ,i will buy it for you ."I replied :"i will buy what i like most after making money by myself,and i even don't need it on edge"Ya,In my heart ,sometimes i like to own my personnal digital cameral ,but i don't want to waste my parents any more moeny ,eventhrough they will to spend their money on buying what i want .I feel guilty to have a bad stomach,coz of wasting their money to buy medicine for me to cure;i do regret breaking my glasses for my parents have to buy another one for me;i always feel shame at losing money for my parents have to give me again.In general,i always think of i being a fool actually,Nomatter how hard work i do in the future,i can't return their deely love . softheaded housewife The girl's mom went to outside for her own job ,and so did her husband.The bady was too lazy to cook for herself ,so she ate some grapes and walnuts.Yes,after eating ,she was full enough,but she suddenly think that her mom even not had dinner,So she decided to cook by herself for her mother.Everyone knows that that girl haven't cook before ,does she can do cook? When seeing the washed vegetables laying on a plate,she was confused how to deal with that vegetables,to make the soup or cook with eggs."Why not cook instead of make the soup ,everytime my mom makes the soup for me because for my bad stomach,perhaps she has already been tired of drinking soup.So i have too many reasons to cook" she thinked.Then she beated two eggs in a bowl and opened the induction cooker.While pouring the oil into the induction cooker,she immediately poured the eggs too.For almost one minute off ,she put the vegetables into the cooker. Afraiding the vegetales can't be cooked well-done,she had to wait for much time ,then she finnaly disburdened her mind,and turned the cooker off . "But only one dish is not enough"she thinked,"oh there're also a nice cut of beef in our fridge yeah,i get an idea to cook one plate of stir-fried beef with chili sauce ,hehe"she said to herself .So after having this kind of idea ,she started to do.The result was out of her mind :the beef was too salty,and the oil was too much .She wanted to recover the loss,so she put some sugar into that plate while she think it would be mixed with salt in order to conceal the scent of salt . These days ,i always indugled in fantasies that Yuanshan can give me a call,or send a SMS.To my great disappointment,He disppeared for almost two weeks.Although time still flies,from then on my life has changed .His shadow and words always filled in my mind .When i saw some different clocks on the hotel which show different countries' time,I can remeber that Yuanshan can recite the time difference between our country and others easily.When i was watching the introduction of some new film on Tv,I thought about the words said by him :"I know the cinema in DongDaJie,After our dinner We can go there to watch film ,ok?"Once seeing a guy like his kind walking out from the car ,I will stay at the same place,and stare at that man.The reason is so simple ,that guy has his own car like him ,and that guy has the similar figure like him.Everytime while i seeing the flash mx book which including some examples .One of MTV called :"Douniu",the actor is so lovely ,who has a small fat figure,wears glasses.The action of the actor is like with his.When i see the weather report,i will watch the weather of Beijing ,whether i realize it or not.Coz in most of his time,he stays at BeijingThe symptoms above maybe prove that the existence of him as though seeds sprout in my mind.As for me ,I can't find myself and my own values in my world .That is not the thing what i want.So no matter what happens in the future ,I will control myself to try to forget him.and devote myself to book sea again.My bright future and career will waitting for me .That's all ,Lemon ,please ,play up! |
